Danish State Railways in open competition

The Danish government intends to invite tenders for the operation of public rail passenger service. The subsequent contracts will comprise operation of approximately 15% of the passenger transport services presently carried out by DSB (Danish State Railways) corresponding to approximately 6 000 000 train kilometres per year. The services will not include the S-train system (suburban train) in the Copenhagen area.

More detailed information including the selection of the passenger services to be included in the tender will be available towards the end of this year. An information seminar for interested railway operators is planned for December 2000 in Copenhagen.

An invitation for pre-qualification is expected to be published early 2001. The contract is expected to take effect as from January 2003 for a duration of 5 years with a possibility extension of 3 years.
