Sorry for the bad news, but this error means that regex do not work at all in your Pepper version.
That's a bug in the current Pepper version that I reported to Digital Wandering a few months ago.

I was told that this bug is known and that it'll be fixed in the next release.
Unfortunately, we're still waiting for that release and as I said before, Pepper for Mac seems to be dead now. :-((((
I'd be pleased if DW would prove that I'm wrong on this.
